True Friends

A birthday girl, Lisa D'Cruz, 8, India, has contributed this birthday story with illustrations.

It was George’s 8th birthday.

His mom had made strawberry sparkles, cupcakes and sweets.

George had called all his friends, but they all gave silly excuses like:
“I have a football match to watch on TV.”
"It’s so hot and mom won’t send me.”
"I have another party to attend.”
George was very sad.

He knew that all his friends were not interested in his party. They only called him when they needed his help.

He was sadly looking out of the window when he saw a bumble bee buzzing by choosing flowers which were full of honey.

Suddenly a ball came crashing towards him. At first he was angry. But when he looked down the window, he saw some children begging for the ball. He felt sorry for them.

The children called him to play with them. With his mother’s permission George went to play outside.

In the evening he came back home with his new friends. They helped George with the decorations. George’s new-found friends were honest and humble. He enjoyed his birthday party with them.

He felt like the happy bumble bee.
