The Lion who could Cook

Sheroo, the lion, was the only animal in the forest who could cook his food on the fire.
Every evening he brought out his pots and pans. Then, placing them on the fire, he cooked delicious dishes. Their aroma spread on the breeze that flew through the forest.

The other animals in the forest crowded around Sheroo when he cooked. Their nostrils filled with the delicious aroma of food. But Sheroo did not share his fire or his food with anybody. Sadly, they ate their own raw food. They wished Sheroo would share his fire with them so that they could cook their food too.

When the monsoon season arrived one afternoon, a heavy downpour blew out Sheroo's fire. A monkey named Bandar saw this happen and ran to tell everyone else.

"Sheroo has lost his fire!" he announced to the elephants who were lazing in the pond. The elephants laughed, filled their trunks, and showered Bandar with the cool water.

Next, Bandar saw a family of giraffes standing near a mango tree with their heads stretched out in the sky.

"Sheroo has lost his fire!" yelled Bandar. The giraffes smiled down at him and gave him some juicy yellow mangoes.

Soon all the animals from the forest heard the news from Bandar. They talked about how Sheroo would now have to eat his food raw like the rest of them. They were secretly happy.

When night fell, Sheroo sat in a quiet cave unhappily licking his raw and cold food.

It was so dark that the animals in the forest could not see each other.

Bandar was still busy passing around the exciting news. He saw a cave and went to see if anybody lived there.

On seeing the back of an animal in the shadows, Bandar gently tapped on its shoulder.

"Hey you!" said Bandar.

"Hmmm..." grunted the animal.

"Hey do you know what happened in the forest today?" whispered Bandar.

"No" mumbled the animal.

"Do you know Sheroo - the selfish lion who never shared his food with anybody?" asked Bandar.

"Hmm" muttered the animal.

"Do you know that Sheroo has lost his fire? Ha!Ha!" chuckled Bandar.

On hearing this, the animal suddenly turned around and growled,

"I AM SHEROO!"

Bandar quickly jumped up and ran as fast as his legs could take him.
