The Impossible Two

This inspiring story is contributed by Lehini Nair, 9, Malaysia.

Tom Young

Tom Young was a seventeen-year-old skydiver who worked part-time in a toy factory. He always dreamt of diving from the top of Mount K2 in the Himalayas.

It took a lot of practice for him to be able to dive from the top of the mountain. When he practiced, he skydived from high hills for training. On some days he even needed to skip a month of school to train to dive from this mountain.

Finally the day came when he was going to dive from the mountain. A speed jet brought him to the top of Mount K2. Tom dived off normally but when he was about to land, his harness broke. He unfortunately hit his head on a rock, had lots of scars on his face, and injured his leg.

After a while he was just lying flat on the ground thinking where he was and what his name was. Tom found out he had memory loss and was devastated.

Parvata, the spirit of the mountain, watched silently.

The rescue team took him to the hospital. Tom was sadly lying on the hospital bed. He didn’t even remember the most important things to him – like his passion for skydiving and his family.

One day Tom was tired of just lying down so he took a magazine from the desk about a mountain. After he read the book, he wanted to climb it. The name of the mountain was Mount K2.

That day, he was going to show the world that nothing is impossible. He was going to climb Mount K2. People said that hardly anybody came down alive. Tom was already missing a part of himself. He sneakily went outside and grabbed his jacket. Then off he went up climbing and reached a point where he couldn’t do it anymore. Tom fainted at the peak of the mountain because he had no oxygen.

Again, Parvata, the spirit of the mountain, was watching silently.

She felt pity for him because he did a wonderful thing for the world even though he was in pain.

So Parvata gave him his memory back.

The next day the rescue team took him back home. He slept for a long time in his room.
When he woke up, Tom said, with tears running down his cheek, “Hi mom and dad”.
They said “We think your memory is back” and enveloped him in a big hug.

Tom was very happy and became an inspiration to many people.

Diana Strong

Diana Strong was a nineteen-year-old painter who worked in a factory that made wooden toys. She always dreamt about becoming one of the greatest painters in the world.

One day, when somebody was absent, she offered to do his job. The job was to cut wood. When she started the machine, her phone rang. She looked away for a moment. The machine accidentally ran over her hands and she lost them both. She was rushed to the hospital, but the doctors couldn’t save her hands.

Diana was in severe pain not just in the body but also in her mind. Her dream of painting masterpieces was shattered.

One year later...
Diana was better at handling stuff with her legs. She was able to write, comb her hair, and go swimming. So she tried to hold her paintbrush with her right leg and it worked. Her next step was to try to paint a picture but it didn’t go quite well. All she painted was a scribble. She didn’t give up because it was very interesting.

Diana said “If I give up now, I will become a couch potato”.
So she kept on trying every day.

One day she read a popular book with no pictures. She tried to make illustrations for the book. Day by day she worked on the illustrations. Until one day the illustrations were done.

Diana decided to send the pictures to Shawn Steve, the author of the book. Shawn Steve was impressed by her paintings and wanted to meet her.

On the day of the appointment when Diana reached Mr. Steve’s house, she pressed the doorbell button with her forehead. Mr. Steve heard the doorbell ring and came to open the door. He saw Diana knocking her head on the doorbell.

Diana said, “Hi Mr Steve!”

Mr. Steve asked, “Are you actually Diana?”

Diana said, “Yes I am Diana. You must be Shawn Steve”.

He said “But you have no hands. How can you paint”? He looked amazed.

Diana said “Yes, I can. With my legs”.

Mr Steve welcomed her in.

He said,”I thought about it and I want to exhibit your paintings for my story”.

Diana agreed to exhibit her paintings. A lot of people came to the see the exhibition because it was a popular book and she had only used her legs to paint. After the exhibition was over she became popular and one of the world’s greatest painters.

She was a huge inspiration to the world.

Two years later…

Diana went to visit her old place of work.

She saw Tom, the boy that was absent two years ago. She walked to him.

She said “Hey you’re the boy from the newspaper, the one who climbed Mount K2.”

Tom said, “And you are Diana Strong, the famous painter.”

Diana said, “I didn’t know you worked here. How was your trip?”

Tom said, “It wasn’t very good, but I’m glad I made the world a better place”.

“Me too” said Diana.

They had so many things in common.
Both of them became best friends and travelled the world together.

The first country they went to was Switzerland. Tom enjoyed it the most because he got to skydive. After Switzerland they went to Warsaw. Being an artist, this time, Diana enjoyed it a lot.
