Ahli and the Necklace Adventure

(This magical adventure story is set in Oman. It is written by the following members of our Children’s Creative Writing Group – Dhanya, Bhumika, and Pratyush. December, 2015)

It was a bright sunny morning with birds fluttering about in the fresh air at Jebel Shams in Oman.

Ahli was getting ready for his daily morning walk. He was as skinny as a stick, had hazel brown hair, peachy skin and emerald green eyes.

While walking (daydreaming too), Ahli tripped on some stones.

When he stood up, he saw something glimmering and glowing in the sun.

It was a necklace!

At that moment, while he examined the metallic silver necklace, a flash of light shone over him and he saw his future reflected on the gems in the necklace. As his future was revealed, Ahli thought that it was very weird.

Suddenly he found himself in a different world and caught the fresh scent of flowers. He realized that it was raining coral pink flowers from stony grey clouds.

"Wow! This is majestic!" exclaimed Ahli flabbergasted.

It was a world of rich perfumes, gold, and frankincense. There was also delicious food and dates everywhere.

Ahli had once wished to become rich and here he was in a world of riches.

"Something is strange" he thought to himself.

"Oh, I know. There are no people here. Not a single soul” Ahli said to himself.

Then he thought,

“If I bring all these things back home, I will become rich.Yay!"

After resting and packing all the goods, Ahli realised that he didn’t know how to go back home. He tries to find a map and digs up holes to find a route or a GPS. But after all that hard work, he still does not find anything so he gives up. He thinks hard about a way to get back home.

Then Ahli remembered the necklace. The necklace was the object which had brought him to that world of riches so it could perhaps send him back too.

He brushed his fingers on the necklace and asked,

"Could you take me home?"

Then to his amazement, the necklace started talking. It said,

“Yes I will take you home.

But there are two conditions.

First – you must go to the Tawi Atyr Sinkhole and put me in the in the first section of the cupboard in the fort's balcony.

Second - once you are home, you must not tell anyone about this adventure.”

Ahli agreed and said,

"Tell me how to get to the fort.”

"I will guide you" replied the necklace.

Ahli set off for the adventure. He was very excited.

The necklace guided Ahli past a picturesque forest, an oasis, and an uninhabited village. He could see the Tawi Atyr Sinkhole as he neared the fort. The sinkhole was a panoramic and majestic sight. Ahli had never seen anything like it before.

As he went into the fort, .Ahli saw antique objects like khanjars and swords. Ahli reached the balcony. From up there, he could see everything around for miles. It looked very scenic. He carefully placed the necklace in the first section of the cupboard in the fort’s balcony.

Then Ahli asked the necklace whether he could go back home.

"You may very well go back but remember the second condition – you must not tell anybody about this adventure" replied the necklace.

“Yes, I promise” said Ahli.

"Stand in the middle of the balcony and say 'Send me back'” instructed the necklace.

Ahli did as he was told. Suddenly a flash of light shone over him.

Zoom! Bang! Ahli was gone.

He found himself on his balcony at home. He asked for forgiveness from his parents because he had not told his parents where he had gone and they were worried about him.

As the years passed, Ahli's memory of this adventure faded. He has forgotten everything although the story is still a mystery.
