The Hat-seller and the Monkeys

Art: Jaya Chabbi, India

A hat-seller sold colourful hats.

He carried them in a basket and walked from one town to another.

One day, after selling hats in a town, he began walking towards another town.

He became very tired so he kept his basket down and fell asleep under a tree.

Some monkeys lived on the tree.

They saw the box of hats.

They saw the hat on the hat-seller’s head.

The monkeys climbed down.

They opened the lid of the basket, wore the hats on their heads, and began to play.

After some time, the hat-seller woke up.

He was shocked to see the empty basket.

He looked up and saw the monkeys on the tree wearing the colourful hats.

He shouted at the monkeys.

The monkeys shouted back at him.

He tried to climb the tree to get his hats back.

But the monkeys climbed further up.

Sadly, the hat-seller climbed down and threw his hat to the ground.

Surprise!

The monkeys also threw the hats to the ground.

The hat-seller quickly gathered all the hats in the basket and put the lid on.

Then he waved good-bye to the monkeys.

The monkeys waved good-bye to him.
