The Girl who Dreamed of Travelling the World

This delightful story about a girl who has a dream is sent by Ruchita Prasad, 10, India.

There once lived a girl named Lina Hoffet and her lovely mother named Dabria. They lived in a cottage in a small town in China. They were very poor to afford anything. The mother grew crops and sold them to make money. The girl always went in search of work.

One night, Lina had this dream of travelling around the world. This was the biggest dream she’d ever had and she was determined to fulfil it.

So the following morning, she told her mother that she wanted to travel the world.
“Mom, yesterday I had this dream of travelling the world” Lina said.
“Oh, but you can’t go because we do not have enough money to take you” she replied.
Lina felt sad that she couldn't make her dream come true.
“Now, off you go or you’ll be late and work hard to earn your money” her mother said.
“And don’t come back until you earn some money” she shouted.

Off Lina went to find work. She came across a beautiful house that belonged to the fairies. She rang the bell.
“Ding Dong” went the bell of the fairy’s house.
A beautiful, rich, wealthy fairy came to the door.
“Hello, who are you? And why have you come here?”asked the lovely fairy.
Lina bowed and said “My name is Lina and I have come here in search of work”.
“Well, come inside Lina, we need a new house cleaner, duster and helper because the last person who came here to help us ran away” said the fairy.
“Oh dearie me! I forgot to mention that you will be paid and you have to work here for a year” the fairy informed.

So, Lina agreed to stay and work for the fairies.
“You have to clean 5 rooms and never ever enter the 6th one” warned the fairy.
“But I have something to tell you. Can I have my dream come true too and be paid?” Lina asked.
“Maybe if you make us happy then it will be a yes” replied the fairy.
“Yeah” Lina mumbled quietly to herself. She agreed and worked at the fairies place for a year and followed instructions carefully.

One day, she heard a noise from the 6th room. Lina was thinking about going into the 6th room but she remembered the fairy’s warning.
Lina desperately wanted to know what that noise was and she slightly opened the door of the 6th room. She saw a sort of person trying to get something from the 6th room but that person got all bitten by bugs and insects. That person looked like a witch. Lina called the fairies and they came within seconds.
“Oh, it's that nasty witch who wants all this gold. Thank god you came and called me” the fairy said.

Months passed and finally it was the day that she was going to have her dream come true and also be paid. “Well, we have discussed among ourselves that you deserve to have your dream come true and to be paid” stated the fairy.
Lina danced around the room with joy.
“Tonight you can sleep on a pile of gold in the 6th room. The coins that stick to you are yours which you can take home with you” exclaimed the fairy.

The next morning, Lina saw a lot of gold stuck to her body. She felt happy and thanked the fairy.
“Thank you” said Lina.
“It was my pleasure” the fairy said.
“And your dream... by the way, what is your dream?” asked the fairy.
Lina coughed and said “I want to travel around the world”.
“Ok, your dream will come true tomorrow morning. You will travel around the whole wide world. Each day you will travel to a new place. Overnight your house will float to another place” the fairy said.

Lina said goodbye and went off to her cottage. She told her mother all about what had happened.
“Wow, you are going to travel around the world. I wrong in the first place” beamed Dabria.
“Ya” stated Lina.
“I heard from somewhere that you must always follow your dreams and that’s what you did and I am so proud of you.Look at you, there's gold stuck on your clothes. We’re rich and can travel around the world and with all this gold” said Dabria happily.
They both were very tired so they ate and went to sleep. “Good night, sweet dreams” Lina said to her mother. “Same to you” she replied.

The next morning, when Lina opened the door, they were not in China. They were in Europe.
“Look, look, we’re in Europe” she stated to her mother who was still sleeping.
“Oh my god” she mumbled to herself.
As her mother was putting on her clothes, Lina counted the gold coins she had earned.
“Mom we have lots and lots of money” she beamed brightly.
“Let’s get out of this cottage and travel around Europe” Dabria said to her daughter.

Off they went across Europe. They tasted the food, got to know about the culture, and lots more. Next they went to Asia and saw different types of creatures. After that they went to America, tried the clothing and did many more things.
They travelled across the whole world trying different things and they both got to know lots of facts about things there. Finally they reached their home safely.

“We’re done exploring and travelling around the world. That was my dream come true, thanks to the fairy” said Lina.
“Thank you” she said to the fairy quietly.
Lina and Dabria lived happily ever after and they were no longer poor.
